FNB Donates $10,000 To Commemorate Seward Centennial

ANCHORAGE - On September 20, the City of Seward will unveil a new
bust of William H. Seward, donated by First National Bank Alaska to
commemorate the citys 100th anniversary.

The unveiling will take place during Sewards annual Railroad Days
celebration, and various public officials, Alaska Railroad officers and prominent businesspeople from the Railbelt are scheduled to attend.

The bust of Seward, designed and sculpted by Seward artist Dennis
Treadwell, will be unveiled at the park next to First Nationals branch in that town, where it will be permanently displayed. The bank donated $10,000 for the commission of the work.

William H. Seward was U.S. Secretary of State from 1860 to 1868 and a
major force in the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. As detailed on the busts plaque, when Seward was asked what was the most significant act of his career, he replied, The purchase of Alaska! But it will take a generation to find out.

Established in 1922, First National is Alaskas largest Alaskanowned
and operated bank, with 27 branches throughout Alaska and ATMs in 17 rural communities.
