Contributions top $1 million in 2014

Fourth quarter contributions of $457,162 pushed the total to $1,033,106 in financial support provided to local Alaska communities in 2014 by First National Bank Alaska and its employees. The total includes charitable gifts, activity sponsorships, and in-kind donations of time and talent during the past year.

We believe in Alaska, said President Betsy Lawer of First National. That means we believe in supporting those communities where our employees work and live. Thats one reason why, since we started serving this great state nearly a century ago, weve been giving to the causes and organizations that are important to our fellow Alaskans.

Financial support was given to a wide variety of health, youth, educational, civic and arts organizations in the state. Education was again a major focus of the banks support, with significant contributions to the University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Pacific University, Alaska Native Heritage Center educational outreach, the Alaska Sealife Center and the University of Alaska Foundation.

Alaskas youth were also a particular focus for First National donation efforts. The bank continued its long-time contributions to organizations such as Boys and Girls Club, the Alaska School Activities Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Chugiak Childrens Services, Junior Achievement and Girls Scouts of Alaska. Recipients of other major contributions in 2014 included United Way, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, Beans Caf, Alaska Public Radio Network, Food Bank of Alaska, The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, among many others.

In addition to these donations, bank employees volunteered hundreds of hours to assist organizations and the people they serve. First National also donated thousands of dollars of gift items such as childrens toys, sporting goods, office supplies and clothing items.

Alaskan-owned and operated since 1922, First National proudly meets the financial needs of Alaskans with ATMs and branches in 18 communities throughout the state.
